Cayenne Asset Management Limited (Cayenne) is an independent investment management company which specialises in exploiting the pricing inefficiencies of the closed-end fund market.
Cayenne, which is 100% owned by the Gayler family, was incorporated in March 2004 to take on the management of Apollo Fund plc. The Fund, established in September 1997, has been managed since its inception by Len Gayler who is assisted by James Hart and John Tappenden. Len has been trading in financial markets for more than 35 years with experience in equities, bonds, derivatives, risk arbitrage and distressed debt. James and John have been involved in the closed-end fund sector for over 15 years and 20 years respectively.
Cayenne also manages The Cayenne Trust plc, a London listed investment trust. Since taking over this mandate on 30th January 2006, a further fund raising has been undertaken, bringing total assets of the Trust to £58.5m.
Cayenne's approach tends to be constructive, rather than aggressive and involves value investing with a hedging strategy to minimise volatility. Both mandates seek to achieve consistent positive absolute total returns and this is achieved by searching out relative value situations rather than directional trading.
